Fred F. Snyder

Fred Fortney Snyder, 93, of Hundred, known as "Heinie" to family and friends, died December 26, 2002 at his lifelong home in Hundred.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Moyer Snyder, whom he married on February 13, 1938.  Fred was born August 4, 1909 a son of the late William and Minnie Poland Snyder.  

Surviving are one son, Stephen T. Snyder and his wife, Doris West Snyder of Blue Ridge, VA; three grandsons, Stephen Mark Snyder and his wife Wendy of Alaska, Ronnie Snyder and his wife Terri and David Snyder all of Blue Ridge, VA; two great-granddaughters, Kara and Sarah Snyder both of Blue Ridge, VA; one brother, Robert Snyder of Ohio.  Also surviving are two bothers-in-law, and wives, Bill Moyer and his wife Hallie of Spearfish, SD and Thomas Shriver and his wife Evie of Moundsville.  Many nieces and nephews.  His caregivers during his last illness, Debbie Dotson, Chris Stoneking and Betty Hawkins.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Fred graduated from Hundred High School and attended business college in Wheeling.  He was a Merchant in Hundred for many years and was involved in the oil and gas industry.

A veteran of World War II, Fred was a hero and was awarded many service commendations, the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, WW II Victory Ribbon, American Theatre Service Ribbon.  He served in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and in Central Europe with the 331 st Infantry.

Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred from 7-9 PM Friday.  Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1:00 PM Saturday with Evangelist Steve Stevens officiating.  Interment will follow in Cunningham Memorial Gardens at Burton.  Memorial contributions may be made to: Hundred Area Pride, PO Box 109, Hundred, WV or to the Hundred Public Library, PO Box 453, Hundred, WV 26575
