In Loving Memory Of
John Lewis Donaldson, 86, of Klondike Community, Fairview, WV has gone to be
with the Lord on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at his home. He was born
in Fairview on September 25, 1930 a son of the late Charles Emerson Donaldson
and Mary Ann Gump Donaldson.
He was a member of the Union Baptist Church. He worked as a telephone
lineman till retirement in 1988. He was passionate about playing guitar
and singing. He was inducted in the West Virginia Country Music Hall of
Fame. He played rhythm guitar and played quite frequently at the Sage
Brush Roundup in Fairmont among other places.
John was a member of the Blacksville Senior Center. He was a graduate of
Clay-Battelle High School, class of 1949.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Hilda Cunningham Donaldson; one brother and
his wife, Rev. Paul Donaldson and his wife Linda of Petersburg, WV; five
children, Mary Ellen Lake, wife of the late Kevin Lake; David Donaldson and his
wife Burnice, Carla Moore and husband Jeff, Teresa Greenlee and husband Frank,
and Michael Donaldson and wife Mary, all of Fairmont; thirteen grandchildren,
Christina Moore, Alissa Donaldson, Brittany Myers, Jeff Moore, David Donaldson,
Melissa Mike, Michelle Moore, Matt Moore, Sierra Greenlee, Makayla Donaldson,
Frankie Greenlee, Nathaniel Greenlee, and Megan Donaldson; and eight
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Lenora Evelyn
Donaldson who died at birth; a son-in-law, Kevin Lake; a grandson, Christopher
Moore, and a daughter, Carol Lee Donaldson.
Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home, 5894 Mason-Dixon Highway,
Blacksville, from 4-9 PMSaturday. Funeral services will be held in
the funeral home at 2:00 PM Sunday with the Pastor Damon
Nicholson officiating. Interment will follow in the Haught Cemetery near
