Marian Ammons Wilson, 76, of Blacksville, passed away September 29, 2004 at The Madison in Morgantown. Throughout her life, she was inquisitive, energetic, loving and peaceful. She faced cancer with extraordinary courage and resoluteness: she enjoyed every good day. Her inspirational outlook made it easier for all of us around her.
Marian was born February 4, 1928, in Daybrook, WV, daughter of the late Stephen and Dessie Ammons. She earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in English and Library Science from West Virginia University and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She served as a schoolteacher for 30 years in Monongalia County and was like and respected by both students and faculty. She taught 10 years at Daybrook Junior High and 20 years at Clay-Battelle High School as an English teacher and librarian.
Marian loved to learn from books and the many travels she shared with her husband, Sam. She was physically active, and she and Sam were famous for their daily walks. It is estimated that together they have walked enough miles to traverse the earth.
She was an active member of the Blacksville United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the United Methodist Women's Society, member of the church trustees, and was the church treasurer for 31 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Margie Fox and her brother-in-law, Encil (Nick) Moore.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Huey (Sam) Wilson; a son David Wilson, of Cleveland, Ohio; a son Richard, and his wife Mary Ann, of Parkersburg; grandchildren, Michael and Robert of Parkersburg and Stephen of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Jeannie McCoy and her husband, Tommy, of Daybrook; a brother-in-law, John Fox of Newborn, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Pauline Moore, of Barrackville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kyle and Ellen Wilson of Silver Springs, Maryland; and several nieces and nephews.
