CHARLOTTE SWEITZER

          Charlotte Bernice Sweitzer (Pennington), 83, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Thursday, October 27th in her home, surrounded by her loving family.  Daughter of the late Byrns and Stella Pennington, Charlotte was born on July 22, 1939 in Lowsville, WV.  She was a 1957 graduate of Clay-Battelle High School.  Following high school, she went on to work as a factory line worker at Westinghouse in Fairmont, WV.  On a dare, she met the love of her life at the American Legion Armory in Morgantown, WV and married him soon after.  She spent her married life in a truly adventurous way, living in many different states across the country before returning to her home among the hills.  Charlotte spent her life loving and raising children.  In addition to her own three children, Charlotte helped raise her grandchildren, and countless foster children.

          She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert “Bob” Frederick Sweitzer, and her three children Cindy Sweitzer-Pinn (Douglas), Patti Driver (Rick), and Eric Sweitzer (Tina).  She is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Patricia J. Futrell (Clay), Ariana Romito (Nicholas), Haley Barr (Jacob), Julia Pinn (Jack Giuliani), Vincenzo Pinn (Azia Shaffer), three step-grandchildren Richard Driver, III (Elizabeth), Josch Driver (Katie), Anna Driver (Dale), and two great-grandchildren, Casen & Coraline Futrell.  Charlotte is also survived by her sister Shirley Cole and brothers Buck Pennington (Donna) and Doug Pennington (Anne).  She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and foster children who were lucky enough to share her love.

          She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and two sisters.  Bobby Pennington, Grace Yost, and Jackie Willard.

          The family would like to extend their appreciation to WV Caring and their wonderful staff.  They would also like to express their deepest gratitude to Karen, Kim, Amber, Cindy, and Megan among others.  These amazing individuals truly became part of the Sweitzer clan.

          In lieu of flowers, please send toys or monetary donations to WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital.

          Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home, 5894 Mason-Dixon Highway, Blacksville, WV from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 PM on Sunday.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM with Rev. Joyce Bennett officiating.  Interment will follow in the Olive Cemetery at Pentress.
