Joann “Jody” Garrison Staggers King, 86, of Wadestown, WV passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on October 4, 2023. Jody was born on January 24, 1937, a daughter of the late Adelaide Garrison Staggers.
Jody spent many years as a homemaker caring for her children and grandchildren. She and John also owned and operated Miss Blues Restaurant in Hundred, WV for many years and the Wade’s Service Station. Jody’s favorite activity was being a “Nan.” Together John and Jody never missed a single sporting event or activity of her grandchildren even if they had to divide and conquer to attend multiple events in one day. Jody also enjoyed traveling and was proud that she and John visited 49 states. Jody was a 1955 graduate of Clay-Battelle High School.
Jody leaves behind her husband of 68 years and love of her life, John King; one daughter, Cindy Barnhart (Chuck) of Wadestown, WV; two sons, Mark King (Logan) of Winchester, VA and Billy King (Becky) of Wadestown, WV; four grandchildren, Morgan Householder (Mike), Kylie Barnhart, Levi King (Stephanie), and Shane King (Taylor); two great-grandchildren, Michael Householder and Nico King, and a great-granddaughter on the way. Also surviving include her brothers John Staggers and Allen Staggers, and many other close family and friends, including her bonus granddaughter Becca Sanders.
In addition to her parents, Jody was preceded in death by her special aunts, Blanche Garrison Campbell and Virginia Ayers.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Amedisys Hospice Care, especially Jody’s nurses, Aminda and Amy, for all of the compassion and care shown to Jody and her family in their time of need.
Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, WV from 5: 00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, October 7, 2023. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1:00 PM Sunday with Evangelist Steve Stevens. Interment will follow in the Wadestown Cemetery.
