WALTER NEIL LONGWELL

Walter “Neil” Longwell, 87, was called from his home to Christ on October 28, 2023.  He was born April 23, 1936 to parents Jesse (Church) Longwell and Albert C. Longwell of Littleton.  He came from a big family of 5 brothers, (Warren, Harold, Herbert, Robert & Dallas), 1 half-brother, (Gene) and 2 sisters, (Gladys & Susie) all deceased.

Neil retired from Equitable Gas with 37 years of service.  He was a Littleton Volunteer Fireman for many years, and member of the Littleton Lodge #131 AF & AM.  He also happily accepted Christ and was Baptized.

He was a very kind, loving, hardworking family man and friend.  Watching his grandchildren in sporting and school events brought him such joy.  Their hugs were priceless.  He loved humor, visits, and friendly conversation.  No one needed to be a stranger, and he was compassionate to help someone in need.  Neil felt work was his earthly calling.  He loved the outdoors including hunting, gardening, mowing, and enjoying his cabin.  He was very gifted in music (piano, guitar, and voice) with never reading a music note.  He was a gifted carpenter (building furniture, building house structures, and projects).  He was even talented with a paintbrush, creating beautiful pictures on canvas, and in writing a few short stories.  He could do almost anything with the tools in his hands and an idea.

He cherished his family.  He leaves his true love & devoted wife of 66 years, Rosie (Mills) Longwell; three daughters, Lisha (Jeff) Morris, Rona (Chris) Gorby, and Karen Longwell.  He also has a legacy of 5 grandchildren (Jeffery, Ryan, Ashley, Megan & Jordyn), 18 great-grandchildren; & 3 great-great-grandchildren.

His presence will be deeply missed.

Friends and family may call at the Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, WV from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM with Evangelist Steve Stevens officiating.  Interment will follow in the Rice Ridge Cemetery.
