Alma Lee Bean Russell, 92, of Wadestown passed away peacefully in the early morning of November 8, 2014. Mrs. Russell was born near Wadestown on August 3, 1922; the daughter of Russell D. and Ida Zone Mapel Bean.
She and her husband, Raymond, were married for 48 years; he passed away in 1988. They started their married life in Bula, lived in Morgantown from 1946-1958, then moved to Wadestown, where they lived the remainder of their lives.
Surviving are two daughters and spouses: Marcia Kay and Norman Core and Jacqueline (Jackie) and Lloyd Moore, all of Wadestown. Grandchildren, Dawn Forsythe and husband, Jim, of Berkeley Springs, Michael Core of Wadestown, and Justin Moore of Tampa, Florida. Great-grandsons, Erik Hartley of Morgantown, and Jeremy Hartley and Shannon Thibodeau of Berkeley Springs. She was expecting her first great-great grandchild in December. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jared Cole Moore, and her brothers and sister-in-law, John Stanley and Lorraine Bean of Elephant Butte, New Mexico,and Everett Mapel Bean, who died in Bremen, Germany at the close of World War II.
Mrs. Russell was a member of the West Warren Baptist Church of Wadestown, where she had served as church treasurer and Sunday school teacher; Golden Glow Rebekah Lodge #299 where she was a Past Noble Grand; and a lifetime member of the Clay-Battelle Senior Center. She graduated from Wadestown High School in 1939, which was the last graduating class before the opening of Clay-Battelle High School. There is now one surviving classmate, Leon Delaney, of Weirton.In recent years, her pastimes have been working puzzle books and playing Dominoes.
Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred on Saturday, November 15, from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at 1:30 P.M. with Pastor Rose Saunders officiating, assisted by Pastor George Murphy. Interment will follow in the Wadestown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the West Warren Baptist Church, 70 Wise Run Road, Wadestown, WV 26590 or Wadestown Cemetery Association, 10754 Mason Dixon Highway, Burton, WV 26562.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to friends and caregivers, Sheila Watson & Stephanie Sperandio, as well as the other caregivers who made it possible for her to remain at home as long as she did. In addition, they wish to thank nurse, Karen Trump and Amedisys Hospice and the 2-West staff of Sundale nursing home, who showed her phenomenal care and compassion in her last days.
