BERNARD N. PETERSON

          Bernard N. Peterson of Grafton, WV passed away on April 13, 2023.  The only son of seven children born to Bernard Peterson and Julia Stout Peterson in New Freeport, PA.

          He graduated from West Greene High School at Rogersville, PA in the class of 1967.

          Nelson was a coal miner for 38 years.  He started in the West Virginia mines in the Blacksville, WV area.  He moved his family to Mt. Carmel, Illinois to pursue a mining career at Amax Coal in Keensburg, IL.  He ended his coal mining career back in PA at Consol Energy.

          He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan.  He enjoyed watching the West Virginia Mountaineer football and basketball teams.  He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, cooking ribs on an open firepit.

          He was a member of the Wilson Ridge Church of Christ in Grafton.  He enjoyed traveling with his church family to gospel meetings.

          He married the love of his life, Eva R. Peterson (Rush) on June 22, 1968.  They enjoyed 54 years of marriage.

          Surviving is his wife, one son, Bernard N. Peterson, II and wife Amy of Rockport, Indiana; a daughter Heather Helms and husband Bruce of Tunnelton; granddaughters, Bethany Wilcox and husband Lamar of Grafton, Calista Peterson of Greenville, KY, grandson Zachary Peterson of Rockport, Indiana; a great-grandson, Noah Chancy of Greenville, KY; bonus grandsons, Brandon Helms and Caitlyn, Codey Helms and Jordan, of Tunnelton; a bonus great-grandson, Koel Helms; sisters, Myrna Lesnock of Florida, Marcella Rizor of New Freeport, PA, Lesetta Briggs and husband John of Wind Ridge, PA, Faye Brockman and husband James of Myrtle Beach, SC; sister-in-law, Peggy Miller of Clarksburg; brothers-in-law, Bo Rush of Nutter Fort and Thomas Rush of Wileyville; and favorite Aunt Wilma Henderson of Littleton; along with several nieces and nephews.

          He was preceded in death by both parents; sisters, Luella Stalnaker and her husband Roger, Arbutus Craig and her husband Robert; in-laws, Robert and Wilda Rush; and brothers-in-law, Lane Rush and Robert Rizor.

          Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred, WV from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 16, 2023.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM with Evangelist Bobby Jennings officiating.  Interment will follow in the Morris Cemetery.
