Betty Jo Shaver died peacefully with her family by her side Thursday, August 24th at Morgantown Healthcare Center (Stonerise) in Morgantown, WV. She was formerly from Wadestown, WV in Monongalia County. She was born July 13, 1923, in Grant Town, West Virginia reaching the milestone of 100 years. She was a daughter of the late Carl Everett and Nellie Barr Tennant. Surviving are her daughter Margaret Jane Yonaley of Louisville, KY and sons Larry Daniel Shaver (Lynn) of Grand Junction, CO and Mark Andrew Shaver (Janet) of Travelers Rest, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband Victor D. Shaver, and daughter Connie Sue Watson both of Wadestown. Betty was a graduate of Barrackville High School class of 1941. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wadestown. She filled her life being the local seamstress for costumes, dolls, and even stage curtains for the Wadestown grade school gym stage. Many enjoyed her hot dog sauce for the Battelle District Fair for over 20 years. Her home was an open place for anyone needing a meal and a joining place the week of Thanksgiving when family and friends came for a week of deer hunting. Betty was most proud of her large family: 4 children, 13 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great- grandchildren. Betty’s best days were when the home was full of family and friends enjoying one of her many meals, but do not be foolish and step one foot into her kitchen when she was preparing. She was very active in the community including being the Cub Scout Leader, instrumental in getting signatures to have city water in the western end of Monongalia County, participant in the development of Hunting Hills, and making sure the local residents had all of the Avon products she thought they needed. The family wishes to express their appreciation to all the staff for the special care Betty received at the Morgantown Healthcare Center (Stonerise) facility in Morgantown. Her 6 years at the facility were filled with joy, laughter, and wisdom sharing. Betty would always share, “my mother always said, do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, Betty blessed many lives in her 100 years. Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred from 3:00 to 8:00PM on Sunday August 27th and a funeral service will be held at 11:00AM August 28th with Pastor Dave Spears officiating. A grave side service and burial will follow at the Wadestown cemetery.
