David Eugene “Freddie” VanScyoc, 72, departed this life on January 1, 2023. He was born on March 22, 1950 to Edward and Ruth VanScyoc of Fish Creek (Marshall County), WV. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Geraldine Henry VanScyoc; great-grandson Waylon VanScyoc; brother Riley VanScyoc; sister-in- law Carol VanScyoc and brother-in-law Jack Carrington.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Israel and Beverly VanScyoc and Cy VanScyoc and Brandi Bane; grandchildren Levi (Emily), Hammer (Alyssa) and Madeline VanScyoc and Tylor (Briana) Dittman; and three great-grandchildren; sister Betty Carrington, brothers Roger VanScyoc and Don (Judy) VanScyoc; sister-in-law Sherry VanScyoc; in-laws Pat and Patty Henry and Bob and Sherry Henry; several beloved nieces and nephews including his “partner in crime” nephew Shane VanScyoc and his wife Joy (great nieces Johnna and Reagan); and friends Marilyn Bragg and Tom Sanders. He was employed by Consol Energy-McElroy Mine for 41 years. “Freddie” was a member of the mine rescue team and the UMWA. His light hearted personality was instrumental in developing life-long friendships. With an arsenal of jokes, David never met a stranger! He was a talented wood worker who gifted those he loved with his handiwork. He donated several beautiful pieces to community organizations for fundraising events. He didn’t do “special orders” and would typically make something once…it didn’t matter how much one begged!

David was a generous, loving soul who had a warm personality and a gift for making those around him laugh.
