Joyce Ann Butler (73) passed away peacefully on November 30th, 2024, with her family lovingly by her side.
She was born as Joyce Ann Fox on September 29th, 1951 to her loving parents Albert and Wilda Fox in Littleton, West Virginia. “Joycie” was a sweet and outgoing child who loved the farm she grew up on along with her older siblings James (Jim), Joan (Joanie), and her baby brother, Jerry Lee.
Originally from West Virginia, Joyce later moved to Maryland with family, where she went on to meet her high school sweetheart and beloved husband, Jerry Butler. Joyce and Jerry were wed on September 13th, 1970, and spent the rest of their lives together creating their beautiful family in Wheaton, Maryland.
Joyce was a true artist who was able to capture the beauty she saw around her on canvas with talented paint strokes. She vastly enjoyed a variety of different art mediums, and in her later years, took up jewelry-making as a cherished new hobby. She loved to shower others with her hand-created gifts which sometimes came wrapped in exquisite bows as she was also brilliant at bow-making especially during her favorite time of the year - Christmas.
She had a special knack for country cooking, and could often be found late at night watching one of her favorite mystery shows or reading the Bible before bed. If asked for her favorite way to pass the time, however, Joyce would always tell you that any time she spent with her family was time well-spent. Family meant everything to her, and that is what she wanted to be known for.
Joyce is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Jerry, their three daughters: Sherry Pontell, Trisha Nupp, Jerri Collins, as well as their son-in-laws Michael Pontell and Frank Nupp. She leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Kayla Brooks, Spencer Pontell, Carly Plotkin, Travis Nupp, Trevor Nupp, Grace Pontell, Hallie Pontell, Trenton Nupp, Dayton Collins, Logan Pontell, and Lucy Collins, as well as her younger brother, Jerry Lee Fox. She is also survived by her many sisters-in-law, as well as her brothers-in-law. Joyce had wonderful nieces and nephews that she loved like her own, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews that she loved dearly. She was also blessed with an abundance of cousins and friends she truly treasured, spanning the entirety of her life.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jim Fox, her sister Joanie Fox, and her niece, Darlene Garrison, who are all waiting to greet her with open arms at Heaven’s Gate.
